New South Wales Chapter of The Institute of Engineers Sri Lanka held the 7th annual general meeting on the 9 of October 2016 at the Wrights Road Community Centre, Wrights Road, Castle Hill.
At the annual general meeting, achievements of the past year were presented by the Past Chair Eng. Ananda Herath and there was a review of current activities, and possible future enhancement for the next year. Eng. Ananda Herath thanked the outgoing committee and all the members who supported and encouraged the activities of the chapter all throughout the year. Among the major activities of the last year the Annual engineering awards and the engineer’s night, the lecture series, and industrial visits were the most prominent activities. It was reported that the initiative taken to share knowledge and engineering expertise has made a significant progress and a proposal has been submitted to the IESL Sri Lanka for approval by the current council. A number of encouraging proposals to make activities of the chapter more effective and relevant to Sri Lankan engineers in NSW South Wales and ACT were discussed at the meeting. Finally, Eng. Ananda Herath wished the incoming committee every success to take the Organisation to new heights.
A new executive committee was appointed at the meeting for year 2016/17. Chair of the new committee, Eng. Dayantha Jayarathna appreciated the dedication and professional service delivered by the past committee. Addressing the meeting he expressed his intention to encourage participation of young engineers in the chapter activities and the promote IESL membership among Sri Lankan engineers in New South Wales and ACT.
