- Applications are now open for the Postgraduate Programmes in Civil Engineering, University of Peradeniya – Academic Session 2021. The programmes offered are in the field of Environmental and Water Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Highway and Traffic Engineering, Structural Engineering and Sustainable Built Environment.
- The Induction Ceremony of the Chartered Engineers will be held at the Main Hall of BMICH on 26 September 2020. Each participant is allowed to bring a maximum of 2 guests only due to the present restrictions imposed by Health Authority.
- The Construction Industry Development Act (CIDA) is to be amended to address the current issues faced by the industry, especially related to the Construction Sector. IESL representatives are also involved in the sub-committee to be appointed to amend the CIDA Act, by the Secretary to the Ministry of Urban Development, Water Supply & Housing Facilities. In this regard, therefore, IESL Members were invited to send their comments that would be useful for the IESL representatives to prepare a comprehensive proposal.
- IESL is seeking Techno 2020 to be organized primarily online due to prevailing COVID 19 pandemic. For more than 34 years IESL had been organizing the Techno Exhibition as one of its main events. Techno Sri Lanka exhibition has been the source for education and peer-to-peer exchange for all things enterprise engineering and technology. It is the only exhibition of its kind in Sri Lanka where attendees can obtain real-world knowledge and experience that is not vendor-run. Techno Sri Lanka exhibition is the most celebrated and important annual event organized by The Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka.
- As per the Commissioner General of Labour’s request, the Department of Labour conducted Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) advice & service to establishments (industries) post COVID-19 pandemic. This service under the Factories Ordinance, was offered free of charge.
- The Council of the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL), decided to provide an Amnesty Period of 6 months for those whose membership lapsed due to non- payment of membership fee, consecutively for more than three years. This special amnesty period is valid only from 16th March 2020 to 16th September 2020.
- The portrait of Eng. Professor T M Pallewatta, Immediate Past President of the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka was unveiled by Eng. Professor S B S Abayakoon, President of the IESL, at a ceremony attended by Past Presidents and Council Members on 30 July 2020.
- Building Services Engineering Sectional Committee (BSESC) of IESL provided engineering inputs to the national Covid-19 guideline titled ‘INSTRUCTIONS FOR SELECTED PUBLIC ACTIVITIES/WORK SETTINGS FOR THE PREVENTION AND CONTROL OF COVID- 19’ prepared jointly by the Ministry of Health and Indigenous Medical Services (MoHIM), World Health Organization (WHO), Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) and Sri Jayawardanapura Kotte Municipal Council (SJKMC).
- The IESL under the leadership of Eng. (Prof.) S B S Abayakoon, President IESL along with Public Service Engineers Union, National Water Supply & Drainage Board Engineers Union and Ceylon Electricity Board Engineers Union, donated Rs. 9 million to the “COVID-19 Healthcare and Social Security” Fund established by His Excellency Gotabhaya Rajapaksha, the President of GOSL, for fighting with deadly COVID-19 pandemic.
- The renovation work of the Mechanical Ventilation Air Conditioning (MVAC) system of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) complex 01 at the Infectious Diseases Hospital in Angoda was successfully completed by the IESL Building Services Engineering Sectional Committee (BSESC) together with Sri Lanka Navy.
