Dr Samanthika Liyanapathirana -Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE)
Dr Samanthika Liyanapathirana, Associate Professor in Geotechnical Engineering, has been elected as a Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). Samanthika received this prestigious honour in recognition of her contributions to Geotechnical Engineering research and education. A Fellowship in the ASCE, the largest professional body in the world for Civil Engineers, is reserved for individuals of distinction who have made “celebrated contributions and developed creative solutions.” Currently, there are 46 ASCE Fellows in Australia and she is the only female engineer with this honour. Less than one ASCE member for every 1000 members is elected as a Fellow annually by the Board of Direction of the society. Samanthika is also a Fellow of The Institution of Engineers, Australia. She received her BScEng (Hons I) from University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka and PhD from The University of Western Australia.
