It is with immense pride that I share the wonderful news that Professor Eliathamby Ambikairajah, Executive Member of the IESL NSW Chapter (2025–2026), has been honoured as an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO).
Professor Ambikairajah has made outstanding contributions to higher education, research, electrical engineering, and technological innovation, while also playing a pivotal role in strengthening the Sri Lankan alumni and professional community in Australia.
A former Deputy Vice-Chancellor and long-serving Head of Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications at UNSW Sydney, Professor Ambikairajah has been recognised in the 2026 Australia Day Honours. Notably, he is the first Sri Lankan to hold senior leadership roles at UNSW, marking a historic milestone for our community.
This prestigious national recognition is a proud moment for the IESL NSW Chapter and the Sri Lankan community worldwide.
