In the aftermath of the devastating floods caused by Cyclone Ditwah, which caused widespread damage to infrastructure at the University of Peradeniya, a collaborative recovery initiative was launched to help restore essential academic facilities and support students and staff. Through the generous support of the St Vincent de Paul Society (NSW) Head Office, Sydney, a total of 200 near‑new workstations were donated to assist in rebuilding lost learning resources. The IESL NSW Chapter played a key coordinating role in the initiative, overseeing the collection of equipment, managing logistics, facilitating international shipment, and coordinating local distribution in Sri Lanka.
All workstations have now been successfully delivered, received, and installed at the University of Peradeniya, enabling students and researchers to resume critical academic activities. IESL NSW chapter account has collected AUD 6,721.71 as funds through strong collaboration, volunteer effort, and community goodwill and contributed for logistical cost of the asset delivery. The initiative stands as a powerful example of how professional networks and diaspora communities can come together to support education, resilience, and recovery in times of need.
